Are you interested in providing practical assistance and support to disadvantaged and needy people in the Burwood area? Do you have a few hours to spare each month?
If so, the Burwood Vinnies Conference would like to hear from you. New members are always welcome. Contact us at: vinniesburwood@gmail.com
I responded to a Vinnies “Call to Serve” appeal and joined our local conference in early 2017.
I also volunteer at the SVDP Call Centre and discovered that volunteering is not only a local necessity, but it’s statewide and beyond.
The needy in our parish are generally hidden from our view, with companions living in almost every street within our suburb.
The comfort we provide to our local companions is a “Mere drop in the Ocean” to that which is needed, however, it’s much appreciated and generally satisfies the immediate needs of that family.
It is with little effort that our volunteers can assist those in need with a meal for the day, a change of clothes or assistance with household requirements.
“Smiles on faces”, “expressions of relief” and “sighs of comfort” are our rewards.
Join the team and make a difference within our neighbourhood.
Indeed, it is a privilege to volunteer with Vinnies. To extend a helping hand is an opportunity to serve others in need and to build relationships.
The personal reward outweighs the few hours a month kept aside to visit our companions who are facing tough times.
Do join our team at Vinnies Burwood and you’ll experience the joy of making a difference in our community.
My name is Gerard, and I am blessed to be a Vinnies member at the Burwood conference.
It is a privilege to serve in my local community.
I’ve been a member of the Vinnies Burwood conference for over ten years now, and we encourage new members to join our volunteer community, as this enables us to give more hours back to those in need.
If you can spare just a few hours per month, we will orientate you to the role of a Vinnies volunteer so that you can help families experiencing homelessness, poverty, disadvantage and loneliness within our community. It is a humbling experience, and truly a privilege to serve those in need.
